Image Inspiration

You know... half of the reason why I do this blog thing of mine is so I can look back or refer back to anything... just about.  I look up old recipes that I posted, memories, books... all kinds of stuff.  It's like my little journal that I share with anyone who cares... and me!

Hair Perfume??? What??? I need to do this and have everything at home already.  My favorite scent in essential oils is DeTerra's Lemongrass.  I could handle that in my hair all day son!

What has been the biggest sacrifice you’ve made in starting your business? Traveling. We really can’t, and I’m not sure when this will happen for us. We have hopes it will some day. But we had these big dreams of traveling for months and just relaxing, but thankfully, work keeps coming. And since we know the rollercoaster of work as a freelancing couple, we try to take every opportunity that works for our family.

This statement from an interview with LaTonya Yvette says it all when you are a couple in business for yourselves.  There's no one to cover for you when you want to go on vacation and no one really when you get sick.  Although my sister does fill in at times, I've been at work feeling less than my best many times.  But when you aren't there no money is being made.  So you sacrifice and hold out until... one day.

I think LaTonya Yvette is such a beautiful person.  She lives in Brooklyn which is miles away and lifestyles away from around here.  I love to take an internet view of people's lives.  They seem so rosy and positive.  In addition to having her own blog I have seen her featured on many other blogs as well in posts from beauty routines to her home to her business.  Gorgeous person indeed.

And on to another blogger.  One of designer turned world traveler that my sister Mary Evelyn turned me on to recently.  Her name is Jenna Sue and she announced one day on her design blog that she and her "other" had separated and she was hitting the road.  She has visited (by herself mind you) Bangkok, Thailand, Asia, Vietnam... her stories and pictures of where she is, what she does, what she sees and experiences is amazing.  Although my pc won't let me open some of the posts on her blog.  Amazing... like M.E. sais "it makes you feel like you just don't go anywhere or do anything".  I plan on following this gal because I want to see more.

Well now... wasn't this week just full of lovely?!?!

Little People Land

Monday was my Mom and sister Tracy's birthdays so Sunday we celebrated with lunch, cake and presents at Mom and Dad's.  I asked Mom while we were there if she minded if I had a look through our toys that we grew up with and maybe take some of them to the day care.  I wound up coming home with a load of good stuff!  I brought the Fisher Price Little People school house, barn and village along with people, furniture, animals and vehicles.  So awesome!  I also came away with a big tub of Lego's and a set of Lincoln Logs.

Monday morning I cleaned everything when I got to work and set it all up on the kitchen table.  When the kids got there they thought Miss Laurie's new toys were terrific and I quite agreed!  I'm saving the Lego's and logs for later in the week when the weather won't be as good to be outside.

It's amazes me at the things that my mother has kept from when we were little.  I'm almost afraid that I don't know the half of what she's still got.  I did see my old Fonze sweatshirt in the attic yesterday!

As you can see, some of the stickers aren't stuck so swell anymore and have bubbled up due to storage and heat and such... not to mention they're forty years old!  I found a dealer on ebay and bought and entire new set of decals for the village!  I'm so excited about that too.  Not all of them need to be replaced right away but when they do I will have extras ready to go!
HERE's a link to the listing.

say hello?

Are you one of those people who hides and avoids talking or making eye contact with someone you know or once knew at the store?  Are you a person who pops up excitedly in front of an acquaintance to say hello no matter where you are? Or does it really just depend on who it is that you see?  I saw a lady who works at our bank, who's son my husband has done a lot of work for, and who we've seen at parties who I have also spoke with about keeping their children, at the store Friday and although she didn't see me, I turned and walked the other way even though I had all the time in the world.  I also saw a family at the flea market a couple of months ago of which I follow the blog that the mother writes.  I recognized them right away and the son even looked right at me when my face awed at the sight of them yet I turned and walked the other way.  Why is it hard to say a simple hello sometimes?  Is it really going to take that long to say "how ya doin?"  Probably not.

I wonder how many people see me and turn away.  None I would hope.  I don't think I'm that scary.  When we were attending church I ran into a gal who's husband taught our Sunday school class and with whom I knew for a long time and was even in a wedding with her.  She looked directly at me in the meat department and quickly looked away.  I was shocked.  Would it have killed her to smile?  She didn't have to have a twenty minute conversation with me... a smile would have worked.  I did make her talk to me as I loudly said her name and hello to her after she snubbed me.

So it hurts to be ignored but it doesn't hurt to ignore.  I think it does hurt in a way to ignore.  I have obviously thought about the blog gal for a while and the bank lady since last Friday.  I wish I would have said hello.  Maybe, with the holidays approaching or maybe just the next time, when I see someone I recognize, I am going to try to say a simple hello.  I don't snub every time but when I do that split second decision to run can leave a lasting little scar on my bubble that I find myself living in sometimes.  I guess one never knows how much another person needs to be recognized.  I can throw out a random compliment to a stranger but not a hello to an acquaintance.  Kind of confusing isn't it.  But true at the same time.
