days of our play care
What to do today? I have been wanting to incorporate easy (and quiet) things to do while we are inside. Which isn't very often these days. But when we do come inside it is usually so I can cook lunch or because it's raining. I wanted to create wall pockets with manilla folders but just couldn't bring myself to buy any. So I wound up making folders from construction paper that I already had on hand. I have seriously enjoyed tucking worksheets in the pockets during the day and the kids really like checking to see what they have to do after nap time or before lunch. I have also found several websites that offer free worksheet printables for all ages. I have even divided crafts into sandwich baggies and tucked them in there. So easy!

Learning Letters Match Game
This idea came from the website kiwicrate. I am sure it has been featured somewhere else also, but that is where I saw it. Our version varies from the original version in that I wanted the kids to be able to play and match letter to letter over and over so we incorporated magnets and hung it on the refrigerator here at the day care. It was simple to make and took Kristen and I about an hour start to finish. The main time is cutting out the flowers.
The kids do like to play the match game. I will call a name and hand them a bowl with four or five flowers in it. They pull out a flower and we identify the letter, mention words that begin with the letter and the sound it makes and then they match it to where it goes on the fridge. Pretty brill!
