witch's kitchen update

Well I'm just going to say it... This Is Fun!!

I have been working on my witch's kitchen in my spare time for two weeks now.  I have some fun accessories that I made out of clay and painted, I have my funkin and as of today I have a floor and lights!   I made the faux stone floor from THIS tutorial.  The clay things I just made from scratch.  The chandelier was made following THIS tutorial.  I gave my funkin the aged look using THIS tutorial.  Not that I couldn't have come up with versions and methods myself but this internet thing is really helpful.  I'm probably going to reach our data limit for the first time in months!  Every little bit of progress on this pumpkin diorama tickles me because my ideas are coming to light.

Now I am thinking about the fireplace and furniture and base with greenery.  It is all so much fun and I love having a project.  Even though I have help from the web world this makes me feel like an artist in some way.

I literally sat making this stuff for about 5 hours.

I love the kitty with sparkle green eyes.

This pumpkin was the easiest thing to carve.  I used a fingernail file around the opening to smooth it out.

I have since added the little candles I made to the chandelier.  It was gold but I spray painted it satin black.  This little led puts out an OK amount of light.  Makes me possibly want to cut a window or maybe light up the fire in the fire place.

I am really happy with the floor.  I was going to go with wood but as fate had it I chose this.

this project had been on my mind for a while.  A few times during the winter this year I found myself cutting squares on a whim but that was about all.  So when it came time to sew everything together ideas were flying.  Which, obviously, is the best time to get something done.  I broke out some blue jean and pieces of a flag, shotgun shells bags and even some old fabric with hunting dogs on it.  I simply made tabs on the top to hang it.  Nothing fancy.  But it's up there and I love it. 

Seriously!  Whohas a cell phone holder handy whilst you use the john?  I do... that's who.

Reckon I need to go back over with the scissors.

There is patchwork something in almost every room of our home.  And it is things I have made.  Bed spread (and here)bedroom curtains for both bedrooms, shower curtain... and soon to be bath mat :)

my hand at miniatures

In an attempt to hand make everything that will be going into my revamp the dollhouse project, I decided to try my hand at making some clay miniatures to go in the house.  I want pretty bowls for the kitchen, flower pots, and whatever else I can come up with to sit here and there.

 

Last Thursday I was really craving this project but alas... as it happened I didn't have any flour at the day care to make salt dough.  So then I came across a recipe for baking soda clay... didn't have that either.  So Friday I brought the flour and made some stuff.  I was so proud... until Monday.  Over the weekend I went to Walmart and bought some clay that you bake for five bucks.  I love this stuff.  The other blogs keep saying things about "air dry" clay so that's what I went looking for.  Since I couldn't find it I bought the oven kind and like it!  My projects are baked and cooled and ready to paint in twenty minutes.  Who wants to wait for the air dry stuff to dry??  So Monday and Tuesday, in my own opinion, I kicked my own butt with what I made.

 

Here's what I made last week with the salt dough.

 

 

These were for the Barbie house at the DC.

 

I put this little crate together.  It weighs nothing pretty much.

I made these Monday with the Sculpey clay plus a little dog.

And this little bench.

It's a messy little Katie Bug!

All painted and weathered.  I made the little apples back there to go in it.

And here goes Tuesday.  I got braver.

I could have left him this color.  There's a lot on the interline that are left this way.  But I decided to blend paints and make it work.

Not perfect but I like it that way.

This is Skippy and his little pretty water bowl.  He's for the Barbie house.

I think my deer head turned out good.  I hope it's not too big for the dollhouse.

So.. maybe I'm taking this Barbie house thing a little too far but it seems like all I want to do is make stuff for the Barbie house.  I even found a FANTASTIC channel on youtube that makes their own dollhouse stuff out of regular things.  It is amazing.  I had already started making my kitchen sink and refrigerator before I found her or it could have been a lot simpler.  Not that what I made was hard for me to do.  Hers just seems easier.  I've made a couple of things so far from watching her videos.

Trying to make a couple of cakes from a tutorial on the youtube channel.
They are taking forever to dry so I'm not sure I did them exactly right.
If they turn out, one of them will be painted like chocolate cake and the other pink strawberry.

I made the purple pillow from another tutorial.

I made the bead chandelier from my own mind.

I think the copper sink and painted marble countertop add some fancy!
