before it's too late

OK so today is Halloween and if you haven't yet carved a pumpkin to sit on your porch... do it now.  It's not just for kids.  Heck.. we live a half mile off the road with no children and no trick or treaters in sight and I still carve a pumpkin and light a candle inside of it every Halloween night.  Personally I feel it keeps evil spirits away that could be looming around on All Hallows Eve.  And it's just fun.  Well let me just tell you... I amped up the fun this year.  I give you one guess at what I used.  Yep... my all time favorite... glitter!

Monday was our day at the day care to carve our pumpkin which I decided will be the one I will use at the house tonight.  Well Thursday I had an idea.  I got out the spray glue, took it and the carved pumpkin outside and sprayed the inside of our pumpkin.  Then a shook gold glitter all inside the pumpkin and let me tell you about some illuminated fantastic sparkle!  It's gorgeous.  And I cam up with the idea all by myself.  I can't wait to light up the porch with it tonight.  I wanted to tell you today instead of tomorrow or Monday when it's too late.  Add a little sparkle to your life!  Glitter is cheap!

fall decorating

I personally am not ready for Fall to arrive.  Granted the cooler nights sound appealing from a campfire point of view.  On a look back through pictures, browsing for fair entries, I came across an open house Mary Evelyn and I visited last year that may pose as a bit of inspiration for you.  Some pictures have more and some a splash here and there.  But it all has me thinking a bit forward.

 

 

 

Although her style of decorating her home may be different than yours, as it is mine, it's fun to see and get ideas for even a little place to sit a pumpkin or string up some mini gourds.  I love hers hanging over the oven.



Fall library books for wee ones

I absolutely never leave my day care kids out when I take a trip to the library... which is once a week.  I like to check out books for story time and keep a fresh mix.  I have come across several books (luckily) that teach and touch on Fall.  I have plans for crafts and coloring pages to go along with some of the books and even some magic pumpkin seeds!  Here's what we are reading over the next couple of weeks.

All of these were available at my local library.  I usually wait too late and all the good seasonal children's books are already checked out.  This year I was ready and have them for the next couple of weeks!

OH also I am trying to learn this song to teach to the kids.  I even bought a black plastic cauldron!

a Fall open house

Our friend Joann that lives in Crossplains, TN has an extremely lovely and well put together home.  Her style of decorating her home is primitives and antiques with maybe a little Shaker style.  Twice a year she hosts an open house and sale where you can view her home all decorated up for the season and also buy things that she makes and is ready to part with.  She has a few family members who also put a few antiques in the sale.  It is always a joy to see her work and we always leave her home inspired.
