Lilly's Room in a Fun-kin Part 4

 Howdy Do!!  This is the last post in the series of Lilly's Room.  I thought I would share some of the accessories in Lilly's room that I made.  So here goes!

I made a simple coatrack from balsa wood and old sewing hooks.

Of course, she had to have her own dollhouse!  This is why I hang on to scrap wood of all sizes!

I made this little desk from scraps and beads.  The legs are purchased spindles. 

I made her mushroom bookends from clay, paint and tinted sawdust.

Her fabric covered books were made especially for her room in shades of fabric to match her style.

This tiny rocking chair has been in my miniature collections for a long time.  It is hand carved.  I just painted it and added some roses.  It is the perfect size for her room.

And this is me reading to Lilly in her room.

This was a really fun project!

Lilly's Room in a Fun-kin Part 3 Lilly's Bed

Hello All!  You know.. sometimes you just gotta dig through your stash of craft supplies.  Lilly's little bed is very simple.  It's a mixture of leftover balsa wood, tiny wooden spools, buttons, little metal embellishments, and  rhinestones. 

In this picture the buttons and spools are not glued together yet.  The process was mainly choosing and stacking to get the right height for her.

Once the glue was completely dry, I painted her bed white and gave it a little aging for depth.

Here you can see the blue rhinestones at the top of the bed posts.

I cant seem to find any pictures of making her bedding.  I used a small piece of half inch foam and folded fabric over and underneath the foam and glued it.  Then I added a piece of fabric for a sheet, a piece of furry pink fabric for her bedspread and a made a tiny pillow.  

And that's it!  Such a simply little bed for her sweet room.

Lilly's Room in a Fun-kin Part 2

 Hey Y'all!  Welcome Back!  This is Part Two of Lilly's Room.  Today I am showing the shelving.  It's not easy to make shelves the fit a curved wall!  But let me tell you that it is definitely possible!

I found the best way for me to make shelves for Lilly's Room was to make myself a template.  I used cereal box and just kept snipping until I got the right shape to fit snug against the wall.  I also though a little window seat would be sweet in between the shelves.

So, I used my templates and cut pieces from Basswood.

I painted the shelving before I installed them in the fun-kin using craft paint.

It took me several tries to get the right fit for the seat.  But I finally got it!

Then I added gold polka dots to the shelving to match the walls.

I made the cushion from a piece of cardboard and foam and covered it in a simple fabric.  I also added a sweet tiny piece of lace to the bench seat.

And then I decided to add curtains.  I got out some sheer scraps of fabric, sprayed them with hair spray and watered-down glue.  I pin them to a piece of foam in the shape that I want and let them dry.  Trust me, the waiting is the hardest part.  Before this, I cut a wooden skewer to the right length and painted it white.   I also have another post on making dollhouse curtains HERE.

What a sweet little set of shelves!  Time to glue them in place!

Lilly's Room in a Fun-kin

 A good day to you all!  Some time ago I ordered a sweet little felted mouse from an artist in Russia.  She is a little girl mouse that I have named Lilly.  When I ordered her, I knew it would take some time before she arrived and had the idea to make her very own room. I had a mint green faux pumpkin that I had bought half price after Halloween the year before.  This was the perfect thing to use for her room.

BTW, Lilly's Room will be a two or three part blog posting.  So stay tuned.

Here I have already cut out the design for the opening.  You simply draw the shape you want and cut it out.  Then you can shape it up with your knife and a fingernail file to smooth the edges.  I also painted the inside pink.

Here is a picture of me levelling the floor.  I have another tutorial on how to add a floor to your faux pumpkin HERE.

I wanted her to have a window so I traced a soup can and cut it out.  In this picture I also have added gold polka dots to the walls. 

Skipping around a touch... for the flooring I cut strips from a cereal box and painted the brown side white.  Then I used mod-podge and the top layer of a floral napkin.  I went over the edges or each cut piece with a brown ink pad to define the edges a bit.  I learned this technique from Jennifer's Miniatures on Facebook.

Then you simply cut the pieces to fit your flooring area and glue down.  I always like to start in the middle of the room.

Flooring complete!

On to the lighting!  I made this little chandelier from wire then painted it white.  There is a bead in the center that the light cord will go through and the flowers in the middle are hot glued on to hide the bead.  The plastic flowers for the lights are super old.  I got them at a garage sale.

The chandelier design is not my design.  Cinderella Moments taught me that one.  You can find her tutorial HERE.  Also I purchase my LED lights from Evan Designs.

In this picture the fun-kin is upside down.  I am gluing the chandelier base to the ceiling.  I planned to run the wiring along the ceiling and down the wall to the left of the opening to I can easily turn the switch on and off and get o the battery.

I used strips of the white part of the left-over napkin from the flooring to secure the wiring.

After the glue dried I simply painted the covered wiring.  You truly don't even notice it unless you're looking for it.

This is where the wiring, switch and battery holder are.  Right inside the pumpkin.

In this last picture you can see the coin cell battery holder on the left.  

It's beginning to look like a sweet room for her!  Oh... I also used a piece of clear plastic packaging for the window and just cut a circle and panes from cardstock.
