Miniature Potion Jars - Glitter Edition

 Welcome back my mini friends!  My Apothecary needed more potion jars... and also more sparkle!  I love to have eye-catching items in my minis and glitter is the perfect supply to use.  I went to Etsy to link the seller that I used to buy my ultra-fine glitter from but she's no longer selling.  She had the best colors.  

These little jars are so fun to make.  They don't require a ton of ingredients but do require a little bit of patience as the opening to the bottles is so small it takes a day or two for the glue to dry inside the bottle.  You don't want to put the lid on without them being dry inside.  These actually took three days.  But that's ok because I've other things to do.    

I purchased the tiny glass jars from Amazon.  A couple of them I already had.  I wound up buying some that were rounded on the bottom and wouldn't stand up.  I glued a jewelry ring finding to the bottom and wha-la!  Easy fix.  

I used two drops of school glue and one drop of water in each jar.  I mixed it together with a toothpick, put my finger over the opening and gave them a good shake to coat the inside of the jar.  Sometimes you have to roll it around a bit to cover the entire inside.

Next, I carefully pour in very fine glitter.  Be prepared to get some sparkle everywhere! :)

I found some apothecary jar labels online.  It doesn't matter to me exactly what they say.  When they are in the display you can't read them anyway.

After that just use what you have to embellish the jars.  I painted the corks, glued sparkly string and used tiny rhinestones to give each bottle it's own flare.

These are the "shop made" specialty potions.  Slightly tacky but very powerful!

Miniature Blue Canning Jars

 Hello friends!!  Sometimes an idea hits me in a strange place.  This morning, whilst in the tub, I thought to myself... so what if I used school glue with liquid food color and painted jars with it?  School glue dries clear and the food color might tint it just enough to make the jars a different color.  And guess what??!!  It worked!!  So now I am sharing it with you!!

Simply mix a drop or two of white school glue and a very tiny amount of liquid food coloring and apply it to your store bought, teeny, tiny glass jars.  They are so beautiful!!  I even tried to use my glue gun to write Ball on the jars.  From a distance it looks legit.  But we know different wink, wink!

On a side note... if they dry and you don't like the color just run them under hot water and the glue will dissolve.  Then you can try it again!!!  Magic!!!

So pretty and soooooo easy!

As if they weren't already pretty!

While getting ready for my Jam Session photo shoot today, for the look book for the class in two weeks, I decided the jars of jam needed to be a little prettier.  This is the simplest thing to do when you want to give your accomplishments away to the most prestigious of friends.  Prestigious because they are worthy of your home canned products!  Always make sure you have more on hand for just these sort of people when they pop over.

Here's how to dress them up a bit, as if they weren't pretty already!

Skim through your scrap fabric and pick something pretty.  If you don't have scrap fabric you can easily, quickly and cheaply get remnants (scrap pieces) at any place that sells fabric.  They want to get rid of the scraps and for this ... you want them to... it's a win/win!

Using a round bowl, trace the circumference of the bowl onto the inside of the fabric with a pencil.

Cut out the circle with scissors (like you didn't know that!)  Use a rubber band to hold the fabric on the top of the jar of canned goodness.  Tie a piece of ribbon, rickrack, dental floss, or whatever you want to keep the material in place and look purdy.

You can even tie on a label of what the contents of your jar is if you want.  Which I did not do here.  Just thought I'd tell ya.
