Miniature Enamelware Pot

 Oh my love of enamelware 💓💓💓!!!

I have now combined my two loves... Miniatures and Enamelware. It was bound to happen eventually right??!!  Part of my love of old enamelware is it's perfect imperfection.  My tiny pot here shows just that.  I could have made a more perfect paint job with more realistic looking rust.  But that's just not what I see.  I simply made some black damage spots with paint and didn't think it needed anything more.  Believe me... I've got plenty of pieces to compare it to around here!  Most of my pieces just have black blemishes and not so much rust.  This little pot is only damaged from wear and tear or life and cooking... Not being left out in the rain for forty years.  I hope you make one today!!  Please share if you do!

I used a little lotion bottle that came with an at-home eye brow wax kit from Sally Hansen.  I save this little bottle from the trash weeks ago and almost tossed it a couple of times.  To make this I simply made a slit with a knife and used my kitchen shears to cut the bottom off the bottle.  I used a good fingernail file to even up my slanted cutting job.

I wound up using a regular metal paper clip and not this green one for the handles.  I just cut two pieces and bent them.  I then adhered them with a tiny bit of hot glue and secured with tacky glue.  I've got glue that may hold better but not the patience to wait for it to dry.  :)

I painted the inside white and outside a pale blue using these two chalk paints from WalMart.  These are two ounce bottles I found in the craft section for $1.74 each.  I usually make my own chalk paint out of craft paint, plaster of paris and water using whatever color I want of craft paint since I need to very little.  But these are real cheap and pretty handy to have!

I gave her a coating of Mod Podge gloss coat after the paint dried.  Enamelware has always got a glossy shine!

I dabbed on some splotches of black craft paint, painted the handles and around the rim of the pot.  

Isn't she just the most magical thing?!?!?!

Why exactly... with all of the enamelware that I own... have I never even thought of using them for my utensils?  I like to use mine as vases to hold flowers but that's not everyday.  I have my cooking utensils in crocks right now... right now... only because I am at work.  This image inspired me to make the change from crock to enamelware by using items I already have.

So after several years of being a non-concert goer... I will be headed downtown with my niece on Wednesday evening to see Kacey Musgraves at the Ryman.  I am totally excited but am at a loss as to what to wear.  I feel like when I get dressed up in what I think looks cute... when I return home worn out my choice in clothes seems more trashy than trendy and I wonder what I was thinking.  I will probably do the same at this one.  I can remember what I wore to my first concert ever which was The Steve Miller Band at Starwood a hundred years ago.  I wore a two piece, navy blue with white polka dots, shorts and top combo that completely showed my mid which I could do back then.  I think the people We went with were not prepared for my choice of clothing but as I read on a blog today that inspired me... Make no apologies for living your own life... which I didn't that evening but now looking back... wow.  I'd like to be a little more thoughtful now.  The pic above reminds me of a crochet white vest thing that I think I still have and of course I am dreaming of breaking out the denim patchwork jeans that I broke out seven years ago when I was the only one at the party who dressed up for the "dress up Halloween party" and went as Janis Joplin.  I rocked it.  I have four outfits written down so far.  One of them being what I normally wear because that's what I love right now.  Kacey has never seen me in it I guarantee you that!

I was originally inspired by my sister who shared this post with me but then by the blogger who shared the book suggestions.  I'm glad to know that I'm not the only blogger that shares books.  I think I would mostly enjoy Faithful Place after reading her write ups but maybe Lottery too.  We will see what my library has and give them a try.  I still can't seem to throw myself into reading much these days.  The post was HERE on livingvintageco.com

I wasn't sure if I should name this post Image Inspiration or Stuff I'm Drooling Over.  They both apply greatly to these photos.  I was in the mood this morning to find new places.  New places on the internet.  I love my favorite blog list of sites I cruise regularly, but (like me) they sometimes don't post as often as I would like.  Hey... none of we bloggers are perfect!  Unless maybe the ones that get paid to blog but then what's the fun in that... besides the getting paid to do it part.  I never really wanted to get paid to blog or venture down that route because I don't want to lose the fun in it.  If it felt like a job I probably wouldn't want to do it... you know if I felt like I "had" to blog.  Anyway, I found a few new places this morning... one happily leading to the next.  Then one happily leading to me wanting to spend thirty one bucks on a piece of enamelware which isn't abnormal for my enamelware love affair that I have been in for simply years now.  I'm probably gonna do it.  Afterall... I don't have a cream can to put flowers in... and oh how I didn't realize I wanted one until literally within the last half hour.

And... I own several floral paintings that live happily ever after in my bedroom.  They aren't fancy but are oh so pretty to look at.  This post from DesignSponge has got me wanting more.  So in fact that I have already texted my sister this morning for a date to the next Nashville flea market.  She gladly accepted.

This picture made me start a list of home décor updates.  Intentions of moving my floral paintings to the kitchen and redecorating the blue barn wood shelf in the living room.  I always have good intentions when I am not at home.  Then I get there, tired after work, and it never happens.  Maybe not "never".  Sometimes it happens.

Also found on DesignSponge, I was led to a very talented illustrators blog named Frances Macleod.  I adore the pattern below along with many of others she has.  I am thinking of placing it on the background of this blog.  If I can get it to work.

friday finds

Ahhh, my beloved enamelware addiction.  There should seriously be a support group for it.  This collection of lovely vintage enamel pieces began with Number 1... the milk can.  I love it.  I hope one day to find a French water pitcher like Number 2 at a yard sale in Crossplains or White House.  And it being French... one might wonder how it got there.  Number 3 grabbed me with it's rust-ic style and I really like the handle.  The old soap holder of Number 4 entices me and I can envision it attached to the wall of my front porch right above the water faucet.  But then I would be left wanting one for the back porch too... and that would be Ok.

Planting Seeds

I have found that I house quite the plethora of seeds, from veggies to flowers.  I decided instead of over-planting the garden with flowers, I would plant seeds in pots outside.  I really eased up on flower purchases this year and can't stand it I guess.  And it is not too late in the season to do this.  Some of these will flower on up until frost unless I move them onto the covered porch and then they may flower longer.  So I have orange cosmos and assorted dahlias coming up and have other seeds that I just planted over the weekend that will hopefully pop their heads above dirt line soon.

 

It seems too easy to be true.  I simply took several of my enamelware pots and buckets that have holes in the bottom, put in rocks and dirt, then laid the seeds scattered on the surface and dusted them with soil.  I just have to make sure they get a sprinkling of water until they come up and care for them normally after they are here.  Color is what I am after and hopefully is what I will get in a rustic enamel sort of way... like I like.  Plus if we went camping or something I reckon I could take along a pot or two for color.

 



Vintage Enamelware Uses

Ahhhh my beloved enamelware.  It's true... enamel pieces and I have had a long going love affair for years upon years.  To this day I cannot get enough of the stuff.  I usually find pieces at yard sales and antique shops and I have had to say no from time to time if an item is priced too high though believe me when I say I didn't want to.  I have bowls hanging on walls, ones I use in the kitchen all the time and some that I plant in.  Even the coffee pots get some use housing feathers and flowers in different areas of our home.  I have bigger pieces that I use when canning green beans and pickles for rinsing and soaking purposes.  The list of uses for the old enamelware just go on and on.  I decided to pick five fun uses of enamelware pieces that I have used lately to share with you!  I hope you fall in love and find lovely pieces of enamelware for yourself... or for me!

Lemon Balm given to me by a friend will have plenty of room to fill this large bowl with rust holes in the bottom.

I have taken to using cheaper laundry powder and this old cooking pot with lid serves as the perfect holder instead of some ugly box sitting around.

An old colander works great for an evening ice bucket.  As the ice melts the water falls into the beautiful bowl underneath.

Do you have a "thing" for enamelware?  If so I'd love to hear about your uses for the stuff.  And if you need to get rid of some... well you know I'll take it off your hands.

Lovely Loot

It's beginning to look a lot like yard sale weather!  My sister, Mary Evelyn, and I set out this past Friday to hunt for a few early sales.  We were lucky but we had to go a little further than usual.  All the way to Madison and Inglewood.  We wound up finding a couple of estate sales and a decent yard sale or two.  No big hauls but a bit of good stuff. 

 

At one estate sale, we found we were there on the second day and the prices were good (and half price) so we feel as if we missed a lot.  But the things that I bought I probably wouldn't have paid full asking price for.  They also let us go through the garage which was pretty well cleaned out... they thought.  The man said "I doubt you'll find much out there but if you do you can have it."  Don't say something like that to us because we WILL find something and did.  I found the claw garden digger, hand sweeper and new drinking jar which is my favorite size... for free.  And Mary Evelyn found some old metal and a few other things that will be of some use. 

 

Our yard sailing motto is "you've got to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince."  AKA you have to go to some not-so-good yard sales before you find a real good one.  So keep going.

I have a slight enamelware affliction and have a hard time saying no if the price is right.

This affair has been going on the better part of ten years.

I see no reason to stop now and refuse to count how many pieces I have.

My favorite is getting them home and giving them a good bath.  It really brings out the best in them.
