Weekend Adventures on a Wednesday!

This is totally a true story and sums up what kind of Aunt I can be.

 

Friday evening I was talking with my sister Mary Evelyn on the phone.  I already had my Saturday planned which included staying at home and enjoying household chores like hanging my sheets on the line and going through some old clothes in the attic.. stuff like that.  Until... she mentioned that the Ladies of Charity thrift shop opened that day for the fall season.  I obviously didn't get my mailer/reminder from LOC so I said "well, I've already planned my day and I guess not." 

 

Cut to me: lying awake at five a.m. Saturday morning thinking and knowing there was no way I was staying home that day.  I was going to the Ladies of Charity sale.  I sent my niece Lacey a text at 6:45 and when that didn't work I called her... twice.  By 7:00 I had her talked into coming home from Clarksville to go with me... YAY!  It wasn't too hard.  All I had to say was "then I'm going by myself" and she said "oh no you're not!"  After I talked to her, I phoned another niece... Kristen... twice, woke her up.  She was ready to go within 20 minutes.  I picked her up then we met Lacey and the three of us headed out for a day of thrifting! 

 

The LOC sale was spot on this time!  We all found lots of items to buy.  We always go to the dressing rooms together and gladly give out opinions of the clothes.  We chose our goods and headed to our favorite spot to eat, Baja Burrito, in Nashville.  We ate outside and they even had a new poster of which we all got one.  After we ate, we decided to hit our other favorite thrifting spot, ThriftSmart.  The first time Lacey and I went there, we were there for over two hours.  We all selected great items and by that time were pretty much tuckered out so we headed in. 

 

I will share with you, just to prove that a little goes a long way when thrifting, that I spent around $140.00.  I bought seven pairs of jeans (one Loft new with tags and one Levis new with tags), six blouses including two adorable flannel shirts for fall, one pullover, two sweaters, one sweat jacket and three t-shirts... one for Shaun.  You do the math!

Saturdays are for Thrifting

Since I don't have my fancy downtown job anymore, that I can frequent my favorite thrift shops during lunch breaks and on a very regular basis, I have to squeeze in a visit to my favorite thrift shops here and there on weekends.  My sister and I headed out bright and early this morning to do just that.  I had a couple of errands to take care of, including a trip to the library, which I adore, to pick up books on the hold shelf and new kid books for the day care to read the following week or two.  My sister has a great thrift store that she goes to, that is owned by a church friend and his wife, that is directly around the corner from the library.  It was our first thrift stop of the day and the best one too!  I spent twenty bucks and came home with some great find and so did she!   We wound up going to more thrift shops up towards Springfield and this was by far our favorite spot of the whole day!    Check out their ad here on the blog, Dixie Thrift! Click the ad and it will tell you where to find them.  You ought to stop in and say hello!  They'd love to see you!

I spotted a few really neat chairs today.  This was one of them.  I love the fabric.

 Not sure if... I just don't know what to say about this bowl.  I'm not even going to try.

 This was a coffin wheeler and someone put a top on it.  Pretty sweet!

 And this is what I woke up to this morning.  Got to the bottom of the hill in Millersville and there wasn't a bit on the ground or trees.  Change in altitude I reckon.

Summer Sheets Make Me Feel Fine

So I ask you... is there anything better than sliding your tired body between a set of cool, clean, crisp,  bed sheets after a hot summer day?  I think not!  To lift that flat sheet above your head while making up the bed and daylight comes shining right through.  I have a few that I can plainly see the windows in my room through.  Fabulous I tell you.  You can have your 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton, I'll take my oldies that came from other people across Tennessee and beyond.

I will tell you that if you go the vintage sheet route, I am pretty sure it is a sin if the flat sheet actually matches the fitted sheet.  Or the pillowcases for that matter.  One of my sisters says that it would drive her bananas if her bedding didn't all match.  HAHOOEY I say!  Nothing matches on my bed... except for the Mr. and Mrs.

The best places to find vintage bed sheets are at yard sales, estate sales and thrift stores.  Most of the time at yard sales you will only find the flat sheet.  And at the thrift stores you are more likely to find matching sets that include the fitted, flat sheet and pillowcases, if you are lucky.  Sometimes they do have separates that you can dig through and maybe come up with a pair.  I recommend finding yourself a good, soft, neutral color fitted sheet that anything will go with.  Then, let the hunt begin for poppies and cabbage rose filled top sheets! 

I have made something for you.  It is a printable cheat sheet for bedding.  Just right click and print the picture below or copy and paste with my permission.  Keep it with you when you are out on the hunt flipping through sheets on a garage sale table.  Some sheets will have the tag that says Twin, Full or Queen, but some will not.  They will only have measurements of the sheet.  And you will look so smart to know exactly what size you need.  You may fall in love with your new sheets now. 

I only hope that you are lucky enough to have a clothesline to hang them on.
