recently purchased

I am an Amazon dot com shopper.  If there's something I am looking for online Amazon is where I look first.  Especially if I don't have the patience to wait until the weekend and go store to store looking for what I have in mind.  I don't do a lot of shopping otherwise.  I recently cut off several pairs of older blue jeans to avoid shopping for new shorts.  The grocery store and Walmart is about it for me.  And Amazon.

Seresto flea and tick collar for dogs.  My father-in-law swore by it so this year we are trying it.  I will report that after putting it on Kate over a month ago, she has had no problems so far with the collar itself causing problems on her skin like some of the reviews stated.  As far as fleas I haven't seen a one.  I have picked a few ticks off her and they were all dead.  Even the ones on her back legs.  The collar is fairly expensive but not compared to topicals that actually work and the collar covers eight months.  I have got to get the cats one too.

A roll of sticky back cork.  This I am excited about because I recently acquired two good sized shadow boxes that are in need of cork on the inside so that I can pin in my oddity collection for the kids to observe... without touching.  I have bones, dead moths, owls pellets, bird nests, wasp nests and I could kick myself for forgetting to go back and get the snake skin that Shaun saw the other day... all to put on display.

Our wedding anniversary was this past weekend and Shaun is always in need of a new pair of his favorite sunglasses.  They are listed as safety glasses and are Harley Davidson brand.  He has always liked the mirrored lenses.  They are everywhere laying around in his shop.  I don't know why he doesn't just throw away the scratched up pairs.  I can see him going around and trying them all on trying to find the good ones.

Granny gave me a bookmark one night at supper and it had a hole punch in the shape of a heart.  I am sure my eyes got larger than life when I saw it thinking how cute it was.  So Amazon had one for about five bucks plus shipping.  I thought it would be nice sometime to use as a warning worm hole for the kids and then sometimes nice to use anywhere!

And with all the coloring I was doing when my pc was down I seemed to have ran out the green gel pens.  So I got a new pack.  They aren't cheap and I seriously could have probably found them cheaper somewhere else.  But sometimes you just want it right now and you push the button.

Weekend Finds

This past Friday, my sister Mary Evelyn (my yard sale partner in crime) and I decided to hit a few sales and actually didn't spend but a couple of hours on the road.  We probably visited a good handful of sales and here's the loot I wound up with.

It's funny that the stuff I bring home finds it's spot so quickly.  I already have seeds planted in the bucket, have washed and worn the smock, have the pillowcases on my bed, the glasses in my cabinet and have ran through both of the sprinklers!  Nothing makes me feel like a kid again than a quick trot through sprinkler water!

Sprinklers 2.00
Old First Aid Box 5.00
Silver Bowl 1.00
Watering Can 1.00
Vintage Smock .25
Tumblers with Caddy 3.00
Breakfast Glasses (old cheese jars) 4 for 1.00
Vintage Beautiful Pillowcases 2 for 1.00
Enamelware Bucket $4.00

Weekend Finds

From the writer (me) who brought you Weekend Finds from the Historic District in Springfield Tennessee sale last week, we have.... week two.  Because sometimes I don't want to spoil all the fun in one blog post.  And sometimes I want more stuff to post on.  Either way my main goal is sharing with you!  xoxo

This is the darker colored items that I bought a couple of weekends ago.

I am really liking the long braided trivet on our table.  It still had the tags on it.

I am more than halfway through this book right now.

I am currently using this crock-spittoon on the back porch for a water bowl for Miss Kate.
Collecters would be shocked I'm sure.

Old Crock Spittoon: $1.00
Braided Trivet: $1.00
Wildlife Refuge Sign from the 50's: $4.00

Weekend Finds

Oh wow Y'all.  What a busy Saturday full of yard sale-ing!  My sister Mary Evelyn, my niece Kristen and I all got up extra early and headed to Springfield to the sales in the historic district.  Lots of people in different houses along the streets participate.  I wish, wish, wish I had taken my camera along.  From the architecture to hidden backyard gardens with water features, this area of town is fabu!  And so were most of the sales.  Mary E scored on a few pieces of furniture and other items.  Kristen lugged home the cutest pink vintage trash can, metal with a foot pedal lid among other things.  And I drug home this fantastic stuff!

I adore this plug in clock.  If you listen close it has a hum when it is plugged in.  Just like the one my Grandmother had on the back of her bed.  The alarm works too!  $1.00 for the clock and milk glass vase.  .50 cents for the footed glass dish.

Pyrex makes me smile and teetee a little when I find a piece. $1.00

Lovely vintage milk glass lamp that works.  I scraped off the after-painting that someone had done.
$3.00

The rug here is lovely, shabby chic and I wanted it to go in my bathroom.  I will tell on myself a bit here.  I cleaned it... in a cooler... because it is way too heavy to go in the washing machine.  It came somewhat cleaner than it is here and it smells a whole lot better.  It is handmade... hook-a-rug style with a backing sewn on crooked.  I thought when I washed it I could stretch it to make it square up but no such luck.  Don't know if I will be keeping this one unless I find something else to do with it.  The cat sure likes it.  I paid $3.00 for it.

I also got two vintage chenille bedspreads, one of them older than the other.  I paid $35.00 for both of them.  It's more than I normally spend at a sale but these things go for way more online.  Not that I am selling them, I plan to use them, and I just couldn't leave them laying there!

This is the other bedspread.  Folded up but you can see on the right how fluffy it is even though it is folded with the underside up.

I also bought this old flannal back table cloth for $1.00... maybe less... don't recall.I use them at the DC to cover the tables and the older ones seem to hold up better.

Saturdays are for Thrifting

Since I don't have my fancy downtown job anymore, that I can frequent my favorite thrift shops during lunch breaks and on a very regular basis, I have to squeeze in a visit to my favorite thrift shops here and there on weekends.  My sister and I headed out bright and early this morning to do just that.  I had a couple of errands to take care of, including a trip to the library, which I adore, to pick up books on the hold shelf and new kid books for the day care to read the following week or two.  My sister has a great thrift store that she goes to, that is owned by a church friend and his wife, that is directly around the corner from the library.  It was our first thrift stop of the day and the best one too!  I spent twenty bucks and came home with some great find and so did she!   We wound up going to more thrift shops up towards Springfield and this was by far our favorite spot of the whole day!    Check out their ad here on the blog, Dixie Thrift! Click the ad and it will tell you where to find them.  You ought to stop in and say hello!  They'd love to see you!

Here are some pics from our day.  Enjoy! XO

This pretty rug needs a little love and repair.  It landed at the right place... my home.

And at other thrift stores...

I spotted a few really neat chairs today.  This was one of them.  I love the fabric.
Not sure if... I just don't know what to say about this bowl.  I'm not even going to try.
This was a coffin wheeler and someone put a top on it.  Pretty sweet!
 My lovely co-thrifter.
And this is what I woke up to this morning.  Got to the bottom of the hill in Millersville and there wasn't a bit on the ground or trees.  Change in altitude I reckon.

here goes the dirty dirty - part 1

this post is the first of a few posts on getting organized.  it also involves letting you see how un-organized i can be. i think it's a "libra thing".  at least that's what i am blaming it on.  some of my posts on this subject are down right embarrassing.  but the good thing is... i am not the only one who lives this way.  and no... i don't mean forcing my husband to see my clutter.  i mean YOU.  the un-organized.  admit it... there is an area of you home that you ignore.  where the crap just falls.  an area that houses lids to tupperware bowls you no longer have.  it's time to do something.  some of my make-overs took only 15 minutes.  one of them took an entire day and then some.  here is the first of a few. (p.s. you are fixin to know way more about me than you need to know)

project numero uno:  under the vanity (my side, not his)

before... stuffed-o-rama
plates?  for soap of course!  and all that cotton needs help!
do i really need all this stuff?
first step... pull it all out.  then separate in to three piles
use, don't use and belongs somewhere else.
the "to-go" stuff... don't need, been in there too long... pile.
things that belong in a pile elsewhere in the house
 carefully placing back.
keeping only what i USE  (key word here)
after
less often stuff in the back, more often stuff in the front.

geez the under the vanity took 15 minutes and a trash can.  and wow does it feel better!
