February DC Decor

I couldn't stop myself on Tuesday once I received the red string of lights from my sister, Mary Evelyn.  I had already made the two strands of felt heart garland to hang, that was so easy to make and seriously took about twenty minutes, and already had the doilies.  I made the cardboard and glitter hearts to hang that I used my new favorite mod podge and glitter "paint" when mixed together for excellent coverage.  I hung my drawing for the bulletin board that we used last year and hung some card stock cut out hearts from a couple of door frames that I have had a few years now.  I actually saved those from my last job before I opened my "stay on farm" job here.  I left my snowflake cut outs that I am in love with since it's is still winter. I also brought out a bunch of vinyl clings that my Mom gave me.  Now all I lack is taking down January and putting up February.  That will happen later in the afternoon today.  I really enjoy decorating for the seasons and months and keeping things colorful and happy here at the day care.  I always have tons of things hanging from the ceiling and completely make use of this space.

be a happy camper

As I was making my list of things our little camper (me) needs or wants I felt I would share with you.  I am so excited to hit the road on our weekend get-a-ways this year in our Scotty.  Now that the new curtains are made and I found a clothespin bag that I made that just happens to match I feel I am closer to being ready to go.  Although there are these few things I will pick up before our trip.

1 ~ A dish drainer!  I am an outside dish washing gal and I really don't mind but a dish drainer would be nice.  Preferably metal since I have to carry the dishes back to the camper.  We have a kitchen sink but haven't worked out the kinks in the camper water system.  Truthfully I've never camped when I didn't have to wash dishes outside unless we were camping with someone else.  Oddly enough I kind of like it.

2 ~ A small cutting board to live in the camper.  I took along a flexible one from the kitchen and would like something a bit sturdier to take along.  A nice avocado green or harvest gold would blend in with our eighties camper decor.

3 ~ I need a new folding lounge chair.  I bought one from Granny's friend Dorthy's yard sale and used it for two whole summers until I backed over it with the Arctic Cat... woops.  But I do miss Shaun pulling in the driveway after work to find me laid back with a cold one in my hand and a chicken on my lap... that is what the rich folks do isn't it?  Besides, one is supposed to put their feet up on vacation right?!

4 & 5 ~ OK thanks to Mary Jane Butters and her Glamping book, I found out that they make toilet seats for 5 gallon buckets AND bags to go in them that are basically like going to a port-a-potty.  Not that I enjoy doing that, but like I said about the water... it includes the toilet that's in the camper.  So it's off to the bath house for us which I really don't mind until it's the middle of the night.  THEN these two items would come in very handy (outside of sneaking behind a tree).  Although I could just pack in one of my many enamelware shit buckets with the lid.  May be awkward to squat on though and I probably wouldn't feel the same about using it to tote beer in

6 ~ And finally I feel an oscillating fan is in order.  Especially since we have no air conditioning which will probably change this summer or before the next time we go camping after this time because it will be much hotter.  When I think of hot campers and fans I think about Sissy in Urban Cowboy waking up in Wes Hightower's camper, in Texas, in the summer, with no shade trees, no a/c and a small room fan blowing her hair.  Bless her heart.  If she can do it, I can do it... just not right next to a parking lot outside Gilley's in Texas.

HERE's where we took our Scotty camping for the first time last fall.

And P.S. the Vista Sophisticate will be sporting a new set of tires this time AND a new horn!  Look out!!!

Happy Friday

It's lil ole Laurie here sharing clicks from around the global internet.  I have a couple of lists of ideas for my weekend, one for each day, work on taxes, a grocery visit, day care plans, a birthday, acupuncture, library visit and maybe an organic chicken to roast on Sunday along with a fresh loaf of homemade bread.  Hopefully I can squeeze in a walk in the woods or begin sewing my camper curtains.  I really have a small list of winter goals in my journal that includes a few updates to our camper that I want to finish before camping season which for us begins in May.  All the while listening to a Bill Monroe greatest hits album on the hold shelf waiting for me at the library.  Don't worry... I will have some down time while I am watching Doc Martin series four and five.  Whew... I've starting to wear down already!

Hope your plans don't tire you out too bad!  Have a good one and here are some clicks in case you don't have any plans!

I love the idea of hosting a soup party before cold weather is gone.  Terrific idea!

My grocery list will include the ingredients for this dairy-free chocolate banana shake this weekend!

What a cute make over for a vintage birdcage!

I've never thought of putting a mirror in the kitchen.  The first picture is my favorite.  You can see a bigger glimpse inside the house and kitchen here.  I love it!

I want these striped jeans for some reason although I can't think of where I would wear them.

What pretty hoop art in this shop on etsy.  The cactus ones are my faves.

Happy New Year!

I truly hope everyone has done their end of year preparing and are ready for a new year.  I have tried my best.  I avoided a few chores and did some others but all in all I feel I'm pretty ready.  Yesterday the kids got in the mood to help me with chores at the day care.  I was half in shock when three of them asked me if they could help.  I happily said yes and happily rewarded their efforts with Smarties!  For the end of the year in blogging for me I thought I would share a trick the Miss Katie Bug likes to do.  She has trained me well I tell you.  We mainly play this way when I am in the kitchen cooking and can't use my hands.  She's such a smarty!  My friend Melia was over this past weekend for some catch-up girl time.  We had a blast together and she got a kick out of Kate doing this.  Love to all and Happy New Year!

Happy 4th of July

I am one of those gals who loves the 4th of July.  The family and friends gathering together, eating tons of summery foods, swimming, playing Scrabble and watching a fireworks show.  When we were kids, our neighbor's Dad would take us all in the street to play Simon Says after the fireworks.  That was so very special and fun.  I don't know if it was because of him, the fact that we were allowed to play in the street or maybe it was being outside late at night but it sure was cool.

I am a full-blooded American who loves this land and what she has to offer.  If Heaven beats the socks off the beauty we see everyday it's really gonna be something!

Please have a wonderful Independence Day and don't get burned by sparklers!

I Thee Wed

Four years ago today, we were pronounced Man and Wife.
I always say that if I knew he was on his way to me at 33, I would have had done a lot of things different and been more patient.  It is all in God's plan... not mine.
Shaun is such a wonderful husband and friend.  We don't argue and we enjoy each other's company.
We support each other's day and dreams and keep rollin along.
This marriage by far is the best thing to ever happen to me and I feel he would say the same thing.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Ever Thine, Ever Mine, Ever Ours.
