Weekend Finds

From the writer (me) who brought you Weekend Finds from the Historic District in Springfield Tennessee sale last week, we have.... week two.  Because sometimes I don't want to spoil all the fun in one blog post.  And sometimes I want more stuff to post on.  Either way my main goal is sharing with you!  xoxo

This is the darker colored items that I bought a couple of weekends ago.

I am really liking the long braided trivet on our table.  It still had the tags on it.

I am more than halfway through this book right now.

I am currently using this crock-spittoon on the back porch for a water bowl for Miss Kate.
Collecters would be shocked I'm sure.

Weekend Finds

I just adore a good yard sale day!  My sister and I had to take a detour and allow me to have a tooth pulled and like a trooper I hopped back in to the car and we kept going.  I don't know if that is so much a trooper or a stooper!  But I got some good deals so it was worth it.

One of my favorite parts of yard sale finds is cleaning them up.  Several of these pieces had to have the steel wool took to them.  Makes me wonder where this stuff has been sitting for so long... underneath a house that I have been passing by my whole life?

Side Note: I did get the bridge cloth too and the white vase is McCoy.

Weekend Finds

Well folks... it looks like yard sale season is about to be in full bloom.  In case you didnt' know, yard sale season begins along with spring which is also a season and lasts well into the season called summer and if we are lucky it lasts through fall.  So really, there are only two seasons... yard sale season and not yard sale season.  Make sense?  Of course it does.

This past weekend, my sister Mary E. and I, hit some pretty decent sales.  It seemed like every sale we went to we bought something, except this one weird one that had a lot of rebuilt computers.  We sailed from Millersville to White House to Crossplains.  I didn't buy a ton of stuff, but enough to hush me up.  Here are a few of my finds.

This crate is metal and heavier than it looks. I had no idea until I brought it outside at the sale that it was blue.

I am stuck on little deer.  This is my second deer I have found.

This is one of the prettiest quilts ever.  It's twin size, old, not stinky anymore and was five bucks.
I just love the color combinations and the floral fabrics they chose.

This is my new "tub o' herbs".  I can't wait to plant it in.  I needs a little work first though.

Weekend Finds

Yesterday, my sister Mary Evelyn and I, hit the klondike of estate sales.  Now, you've got estate sales where random people are just selling their stuff and it should be called a yard sale and you've got estate sales from a person or older person's home that has either passed on or moved to where they don't need their stuff anymore.  Then there are estate sales that are run by companies that get a cut of what is selling and are usually priced too high and you can't bargain with them or there are the ones that are run by family members who know the history of some of the items and need to get rid of the stuff and will come down off the prices.  The family run estate sale is exactly what we happened upon yesterday.

I always walk away from a good sale wondering just how long we had been there.  In this case I would wager to guess it was the better part of an hour and a half.  And these gals have been working hard.  Everything was priced, which is nice, and there was so much stuff, from furniture to kitchen to knick knacks, you  name it.  I wound up with a new pressure canner, a chair, some embroidered pictures, plates, cookie cutters, canisters, and all of it is old and you know I got a piece of enamelware!  I took the stitching apart and they are soaking in cleaner right now.  I also wound up talking to the home owner's daughter about canning and we went out to the small barn and there was a box full of old canning jars that she gave me.  They were the first thing I cleaned when I got home and found a mouse nest in the bottom of the box that I guess was also free.  I did jump a little and promptly moved the box outside.

This was the third weekend for this sale and we were still satisfied with what we got.  They said they still have more to bring out and will have the sale more nice-weather weekends until they are satisfied and done.  It is out on Highway 25 going towards Gallatin, right before you get to the old Highway 25 market but the address is still considered Cottontown.  There are only signs on the mail box, none pointing the way so you really won't know they are there until you just go.  I don't have the exact address.  We didn't have any trouble finding it and if you go next Saturday you'll probably see us back!

Here are a few of my goodies I found.

Lovely Loot

It's beginning to look a lot like yard sale weather!  My sister, Mary Evelyn, and I set out this past Friday to hunt for a few early sales.  We were lucky but we had to go a little further than usual.  All the way to Madison and Inglewood.  We wound up finding a couple of estate sales and a decent yard sale or two.  No big hauls but a bit of good stuff.

At one estate sale, we found we were there on the second day and the prices were good (and half price) so we feel as if we missed a lot.  But the things that I bought I probably wouldn't have paid full asking price for.  They also let us go through the garage which was pretty well cleaned out... they thought.  The man said "I doubt you'll find much out there but if you do you can have it."  Don't say something like that to us because we WILL find something and did.  I found the claw garden digger, hand sweeper and new drinking jar which is my favorite size... for free.  And Mary Evelyn found some old metal and a few other things that will be of some use.

Our yard sailing motto is "you've got to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince."  AKA you have to go to some not-so-good yard sales before you find a real good one.  So keep going.

I have a slight enamelware affliction and have a hard time saying no if the price is right.
This affair has been going on the better part of ten years.
I see no reason to stop now and refuse to count how many pieces I have.
Oh look... there's two more pieces in the background.
My favorite is getting them home and giving them a good bath.  It really brings out the best in them.

I love this little bud vase and the French soap from Willow Tree Cottage.

New one dollar vintage camera strap!  I love it!
Hard to take a picture of once it was attached to my camera!

Shaun will tease me when I bring home my finds but I always say "hey, it could be much worse, I could have come home with a new car or fur coat!"  He is glad I have inexpensive taste.
