image inspiration

Image Inspiration is a simple series in which I share pictures that have inspired me in some way.  I usually have copied and printed the pictures, in smaller versions, and pasted them into my journal with whatever notes I have about what about the picture inspired me.  It's simple really.  There are so many beautiful photos and ideas out there waiting to be found.

I got this picture from my friend's blog, Passion of the Purple Pen, and loved her story about her nest friend... herself.  I have been on a Louise Hay kick lately and have been listening to some of her meditation cd's on healing yourself and positive thinking.  She is so very inspiring.

I love this image from Shabby Story blog.  I have a rocking chair that doesn't have a seat in it that I generally place boards across to have a plant sitting in on the porch.  I loved this chic version in the caned chair.  So pretty!

I super like the curio shelf here.  I have one at home that was an old type setting display.  I also have one that I left at Mom's that I have a feeling I will get a call about soon now that I mentioned it.  When I was much younger I used them to put little plastic figurines and dollhouse things in.  Now they seem to be making somewhat of a comeback in modern decor, still housing dainty things.... or paper shotgun shells, feathers and wasp nests at my house.

From the very same post on freepeople... I love the wall hanging above the fireplace!  With the feathers strung down and simply just hung there.  I have one sort of similar that I adore.

And speaking of nests...I think we will do this craft today!!

library list

one.  Stalking the healthful herbs, by: Euell Gibbons.  Still on my quest in natural and herbal foraging.  My soul wants to know so much more.  I have read Stalking the wild asparagus by Euell Gibbons and really enjoyed learning about wild edibles and the commentary stories so much so that I sought out more books by him.

two.  Daily Rituals, by: Mason Currey.  I have been interested lately in how actual artists (of which I do not consider myself) stay motivated in their creativity.  Maybe it's my own short attention span and just maybe I will pick a new healthy creative habit.

three.  1, by: The Beatles.  Mainly because the Love Me Do intro tickled my ears the other day and I want more!

four.  Muscle Shoals.  I really, really liked this documentary on Muscle Shoals and all the music and artists and stories began.  Now I understand where the line in Sweet Home Alabama "now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers... and they've been known to pick a song or two" comes from!

five.  The Birds movie, Alfred Hitchcock.  I've never seen it.  I hope I don't change my opinion on my love of birds.

potting sink redo

My ever fantastic potting sink just got a little sassier!  The sink came out of the same house that my claw foot tub came from... a house bought by my sister and her husband as rental property.  I originally wanted to put the sink in our spare bathroom but that idea got shot down so my loving Father built me a heavy duty stand to hold the heavy duty old sink.  Before now, it's never been painted or stained and I got a squirrely hair to paint it a sassy color and plant some trailing petunias in the sink.  My sister Mary Evelyn and I browsed through her spare paint and grabbed a color, came to my house and slapped it on.  I must admit it is pretty bright but for sure in a shabby chic kind of way!

We had to create a barrier with junk to keep Kate from being blue too!  She was in the mood to play.  She's staring at her frisbee willing it to move here.

I promise I helped.

The finished product!  I added one more petunia plant to thicken the pink color and also an asparagus fern potted in an old colander.

literally on the library hold shelf

When I say, literally on the library hold shelf, it is precisely what I mean.  With the Davidson County library system, of which I am proudly a part of, I can go online and request just about anything from books to cds to movies.  I go once a week and pick up my items on the hold shelf and happily skip out the door.  Here is where I share what I'm waiting on and hopefully will have in my hands by the end of the week.  It's pretty much a constant cycle.

1.  Honestly... I am struggling with what to say on why I want to read this book.  I do want to read her insight into healthier living and eco-friendly lifestyle.  Hopefully when I get the book I will have my answer .

2.  I have been on a bread baking craze the last few weeks.  I have never really had the urge to want to bake bread before and frankly using yeast always made me feel like it was setting me up for failure.  There's just something about the smell of fresh baked bread in the house that I adore.

3.  Um Hello...??? Party in the USA is one of my favorite all time songs!  It's my ringtone for crying out loud.  Still.... yes I know.  I still want to hear the whole cd.

4.  Not that I am going all vegetarian, that's impossible for me.  I love meat!  But some good vegetarian recipes in my back pocket doesn't hurt either.  The black beans and rice are already startin to get old!

We Sell Shelves

I tell you what, we have been truly blessed in our little endeavor of shelf making.  Two years ago for Christmas I asked Shaun to build me some kind of shelf for my claw foot bathtub.  I showed him a picture or two of ideas and he came up with building a shelf from old tobacco sticks.  I absolutely loved and still love it to this day.  A couple of months later I listed the shelf, not mine, as a custom built item in my etsy shop.  We sold our first one a few months after they were listed and have been selling them since.  Once we even ran out of sticks and let me tell you they aren't easy to find.  I'm not sure where we'll look when we run out again... eek.  It fascinates me to have the feeling of our creation being shipped all over the United States.  So much that I sat down and went through two years of sales and made a US map of which states our shelves live.  I am pretty amazed.  We only lack ten states of having a shelf in every state!  We also have two that live in Canada and one in England.  It has definitely turned out to be fun and a nice little side job!

Here is a link to my etsy shop peppysis.

Pretty cool huh?

Here's where I made the map.

And here's the latest shelf pics from a happy customer.  It's a booger to get people to send you pictures!

Aside from the fact that her tub is beautiful, I adore the chandelier and built in wall cubby.  Also her tub fixtures are so cool in black.  Oh and the shelf isn't bad either!

Literally on the library hold shelf for me

My library is awesome.  I can get books, cds, dvds... it's very cool.  I can log on and request just about anything they have and when it is available, some sweet little library fairie makes it appear on the shelf at the location nearest me.  Here are a few things I am waiting on right now.

A Treasury

Treasury lists are very popular on Etsy.com.  Our bathtub caddy has been in quite a lot, which is fantastic and good exposure.  When you are on the first page of the site, you can scroll down and on your left you will find Treasury.  They are compilations of found items on etsy with a common denominator such as... navy blue, spa time or beachy, and you can submit them and they sometimes find their way to the front page.  Which I love to be a part of.

Here is a Rustic Chic treasury I made to share with you.  It is much like my four fanciful things series that comes about on Fridays but I still love to share things that I find with you.  I feel you fancy it as well.  Thanks to you for your time and attention.  ~xo

Lovely Spot for a Tub Shelf

I had a purchaser of one of our tub shelves send me a picture of our tobacco stick bath tub shelf in her world.  I love the way she has a small towel hung through the sticks.  And I adore the way the wood in the shelf blends so well with the wood lining her tub.  So unique and chic!

Thanks Maddy!  Love it!  What a gorgeous bathroom!

If you are interested in our tub caddy you can view it here.

The Dirty Dirty - Part 2

It has literally taken me four weeks to post this.  I have had to come to terms with how awful the before pictures look of this room.  Plus it wasn't completely finished until yesterday when I gave the chair a face lift.

You are about to see before and after pictures of my "Craft Room".  There is really no excuse for just throwing any and everything into a space  but truthfully I have had a craft room that I treated this way in the last two houses I have lived in.  Which changed their name to "Crap Room".  I honestly had a  mental plan that I would be uprooted from the space one day.   That it would be someone else's room.  Since that isn't going to happen, I decided to give the room meaning.  To sort of embrace the space and call it mine.  Only after three years of treating it like a crap room!

So here are the before and after pictures of the room. Brace yourself.
A disaster area.  I would make a joke about it when people would come over.  Now I can't believe I showed it to anyone.  The trash bags didn't have actual trash in them.  They were summer sheets and something I drug home.

I got rid of the wooden file cabinet and the side table housing my old printer.  I threw things away, moved the movie shelf in to the closet and put some things in the attic and other things back where they belong.

My sister gave me two barn wood shelves (and helped me all day) that her husband made.  I kept the sewing table and chair.  I kept the desk for now although it is empty and ready to go whenever I decide to get a drawing table.  I moved one chair in from the living room.  My sister also helped (a ton) make drapes for the windows.  I plan on finding a rug to go in the middle of the room sometime.

So are you ready to see the result?

WaaLaa!  I would make a tutorial on the chair redo but I seriously think I broke every upholstery recovering rule that there is.  Then again it would go to show you that everything doesn't have to be perfect when it's yours.  To look at it you would never know.  It can be removed when I am tired of it.  I covered it in a waffle fabric I have had for a long time.

And there's the Dirty Dirty part two.  I have other areas that are in need of cleaning out.  None that look as bad as this I promise.  I swear I am not a hoarder.  I am busy body with a lazy streak.  That's what we will call it.  I don't put things back where they belong.  So if I can teach myself to do that my life will be a lot simpler!
