Miniature Journal

Do you keep a Miniature Journal?  A month or so ago, I found myself with ideas flooding in for a pumpkin fairy house.  So, I decided to break out a new notebook to write my ideas down in.  I even decorated the front of the journal and dedicate it solely to miniature ideas.

While creating my pumpkin fairy house, I have found myself referring back to my ideas.  Last night I sat down with my pen and started checking off the ideas I had already created and it was so much fun!  I also needed a few more ideas for details inside the pumpkin and found some good ones that I could create!

I feel I will be using this journal for future projects.  I have also printed a few pictures for other items to make for other projects.  I like to find inspiration pictures of life-sized items for ideas too.

This is a drawing of the wood stove that I wound up creating.

You can find the tutorial HERE

Do you keep a miniature journal?  Do you brainstorm and write down ideas?  It really is fun!

Thanks for your visiting today!

Image Inspiration

This little segment of my series called Image Inspiration is done in DC style.  DC meaning day care!  I love to fish around the internet for ideas for the kids and I whether it pertains to simple crafts to take home or decorate the day care or art that goes along with books that we are reading.  I think the book crafts help the kids to remember what the books are about.  one of my preschool kids told me that in his new pre-k class that have books we've read here but not the crafts that we've done.  Made me smile.

I get emails from a website called Nurture Store each week that has games, crafts and sensory play ideas for kids.  These first two are from the email that I got last week.  I already have the shells for the first one and the second fish craft is from household items so... done and done!

One Duck Stuck is a book that we have checked out from the library right now.  The craft that we will be done differs a little bit from the one to match the book below but it is the image that my inspiration came from.

And I love this candy corn garland found on lovetosew.com.
I've already made some and it's hanging in the day care.  Ofcourse I probably don't have to tell you that mine has gold, orange and white glitter since I am a total glitter freakazoid!

Candy corn garland made from painted paper plates, a kids Halloween craft project.

And while shopping for a picture of candy corn garland because I couldn't remember where I originally saw it I found Christmas tree paper plate garland that I may just have to pre-make today!
Oh what fun it is!

Precious huh?!?!

On The Menu

Here we have some vegan recipes that I have come across simply by going to Pinterest and typing in "vegan breakfast".  Truth is, I am being urged (by no one but myself) to actually do the 108 day, The Ultimate Yogi program.  The program not only consists of daily yoga and meditation but also a big change in diet, for me anyway.  Lots of juices, no processed foods (which I try my best to stay away from already), vegan, raw, and no alcohol.  It would be tough until I got the hang of it.  But this morning I wondered... what to vegans eat for breakfast?  I eat pretty healthy and switch my breakfasts from my berry-beet smoothie, my favorite green smoothie, over night oats and rye toast with almond butter, banana and flax seed.  Sounds like I would do ok I reckon.  As I was browsing, I found a few recipes I'd like to have a go with.  I actually tried making the 3 ingredient biscuits Sunday morning and not sure if the one container that I used to keep self-rising flour in still contained SR or not, I used it anyway and turns out it wasn't SR flour.  Not sure what it was actually.  Tasted pretty salty and smelled like play dough.  My fault.  Worth a try though!

These burritos remind me of a lunch variety of burritos that I made for myself to eat on the trails four wheeling.  I actually haven't eating any lunch meat (processed) in over a year and didn't want to spoil that being in a pinch for picnic food.  So I made "make ahead lunch wraps", ate them cold and truthfully enjoyed the heck out of them.  This version has tofu which I will admit I have never tried and am a hesitant to do so.  I'm not real sure what tofu is exactly and since we mentioned processed.... it sounds like tofu would have to be processed somehow.  I've often stared at it at the grocery store with a difficult look on my face wondering... soft? firm? what am I going to make with it? will Shaun come near it?  So I wind up leaving it there.

Do you have any vegan breakfast ideas or suggestions? Lemme have em please!

Gingerbread House Trees

This year, while preparing for my gingerbread house, I remembered once using ice cream cones for trees.  Since my theme this year was featured around chocolate, I decided to use chocolate candy melts and roll my cone "trees" in the chocolate. I then used snowflake sprinkles while the chocolate was still melty enough for them to stick.

It then hit me (btw this was Thanksgiving morning while I was making three pies and two batches of sweet potatoes... so I had nothing else to do but make trees) why not make a few more using white chocolate melts and other kinds and colors of sprinkles.  So my cousin helped me make a few more for other gingerbread house decorators to use with their houses.

These were so easy and so much fun!  And any gingerbread house is gonna need some trees!

A Tribute to My Friends

You may think it is a little late in the year to be planting bulbs, but in Tennessee, it's still ok.  Heck I haven't even planted my garlic yet!  I ran across some crocus bulbs on clearance at WalMart a few weeks ago and had an idea for our little beloved pet cemetary.  I had the idea a couple of years ago while planting bulbs on Miss Pepper's grave.  I made a P out of crocus... P standing for Pepper.  The second spring the flowers cam up I could really see the P for Pepper blooming in all it's glory.  I just loved it.  So when I saw the bulbs on sale I grabbed them.  I bought purple for Dottie's grave and white for Sipsey's.  The last few weekends it has been too wet or too cold to be out digging in the dirt.  This Saturday, however, was perfect.  And it truly only took me about twenty minutes.  I also had bought some coral colored tulips for them too so I planted them as well.

I simply cleared away the leaves, and took my hand shovel and hoe to dig out a simple letter shape.  Crocus only have to be two inches in the ground so I didn't do any major digging here.  I finished up Dottie's "D" and that's when I was discovered.  I heard leaves rustling and looked up to see my chickens running toward me, Miss (Mr) Kitty walking in the tree line up a log and Katie Bug standing there with her frisbee in her mouth.  I kept tossing the frisbee for Kate while I started Sipsey's "S" and the chickens decided they would kick around and help me dig too.  Every time I found a worm I would call Pepper's name (the chicken, not the dog) and she would come running to eat what I had found.  She's trusts me so much.  Miss Kitty just laid on the log watching the circus unfold.

I really love the fact that even after the wooden crosses are rotted away, some, if not all of the bulbs I lovingly placed in the ground for my lost friends will still come up in their honor.  I really hope someone will do the same for me one day.  I can't wait until spring to see the floral letters appear!

Gift Ideas for Fathers day

Father's Day is Sunday, June 16th.  I decided to share my mental list for Father's Day gifts with you pictorially!  Just in case you may need an idea or maybe a place to shop.  All of them aren't included as they are pretty simple to figure out where to get them... example... the liquor store.  You can also find most of these items locally as well as online.  I am sharing the online locations with most.

These are ideas that I have for my Father as well as Shaun's Dad.  They each will be getting something from this list so blood Sisters please ask before you buy.

Bluegrass Music - this is the band we saw at Bluegrass Underground in April!  very good!

Wine Bottle Stoppers - because a glass a day keeps the doctor away!

Liberty Overalls - for working in the shop.  easy to find his size here.

Manly Journal - men write things down don't they?  I figure this one would be easy enough to make but you can purchase it if you don't want to make it

Backyard Horseshoes - hours of backyard summer fun

Summer Work Shirt - thin and comfortable to work in

Alligator Pond Decoy - ok.. it's funny! but it is said to keep blue herons from eating the fish.

Pretty Pots to Plant In

I just cannot be normal.  I refuse to purchase normal pots from WalMart to put my summer beauties in.  Well, unless they are on serious clearance and big enough to repot an inside plant in.  Instead I am like a scavenger when thrifting and at yard sales trying to find items large enough to put plants in.

At my Thrift Store, I call it mine because it's the one I frequent, two weeks ago I looked up to the top of a long clothing rack where they display kitchen glassware at one and and pots and pans at the other, and spotted a big pot.  I darted, and I mean darted, towards it, picked it up and immediately admired it's size, age, nice wooden handle and it's price wasn't bad either at six dollars.  Six dollars is a tad high but it is a good sized pot that a lovely summer geranium would soon call home.

This spring and summer I ask you to venture out.  To break out and find something unusual to plant something wonderful in.  Take the kitchen outside, take the laundry room outside, take the bathroom outside (ok not like that!)  I am going to show you how to take an old stock pot and turn it in to a planter and also give you more ideas of things you can look for to plant in from the last couple of years.

First select the pot to plant in.

If it has no possible way to drain water you're going to have to make this happen.

If the pot is thin enough, or has rust holes already, simply use a hammer and nail to make the hole.  Sometimes you have to use a drill and drill bit.

Line the bottom of your pot with gravel or rocks then top it with potting soil.
It helps to insert the pot your plant comes in into the dirt to get the correct size hole.  Then easily remove the plant, dirt and all, from the pot and insert it into the hole that you made.

Fill all around the plant with potting soil and top with mini chunk mulch to help keep the soil moist.

Give your new plant in it's new pot a good drink of water and a smooch of good luck!

Here are some other items I have found are fun to plant in.
Old chip can.  Used the lid on a bird feeder.

Large, enamel bowl.  It already had thin rusty spots so it was easy to knock holes in.  The chair... came with no seat.  I did spray it pink.  When you're single you can paint anything island pink.  Shaun doesn't go for pink so much :)
Yes, it's a hospital pee pot.  And I did clean it first :) (enamel pot planted in in the background)

This lovely Pyrex nesting bowl I bought at a yard sale and luckily it already had a hole in the bottom.  Who the heck would get rid of this?

This, I thought, was a good idea.  I did have a bit of trouble cutting the matting  to line it with but it finally worked and did great all summer.  Not bad for a twenty five cent old kitchen basket at a garage sale!

Good luck and send me picks of things that you find to plant in!  I'd love to see the great ideas!
